Santorini wine is its own thing. The vines grow in volcanic ash and pumice, pruned into ground-level baskets — kouloura — to shelter the grapes from the wind. The result is Assyrtiko: dry, mineral, high-acid, and unlike anything else in Greece. Vinsanto, the dessert wine, is sun-dried Assyrtiko aged in oak. Mavrotragano is the indigenous red.
Over three hours we visit three wineries on the eastern and southern side of the island, with a private driver-guide. You taste four wines at each stop — twelve pours in total — paired with Greek cheese, cherry tomatoes, olives and local cold cuts. The host walks you through each estate, the soil, and what the wind does to the grape.
Pickup is from Fira (cable car or Atlantis Hotel), the airport, or Athinios port. Tour ends back at your meeting point.
Three wineries, one afternoon.
This is a typical itinerary for this product — one hour at each estate, four glasses per person, admission included at every stop.
Art Space — Exo Gonia
Start by tasting three white wines, a red wine and a sweet red wine. Art Space Winery Museum & Art Gallery is a unique art center within the pumice-rock carved chambers of an old winery in Exo Gonia, Santorini — operating since 1999 as a hospitable retreat for Greek and foreign artisans who share the same passion for creativity.
Venetsanos Winery or SantoWines
Another stunning cliffside location where you can see almost the whole caldera — Fira, Oia, Imerovigli, Skaros rock — along with the famous volcano that shaped it. Stop 2 is Venetsanos Winery in Megalochori, or SantoWines depending on availability. The eternal blue lies at your feet while you taste different qualities of wine paired with Greek cheese, traditional Santorinian fresh tomatoes, olives and local cold cuts.
Estate Argyros — Episkopi Gonia
At the final stage of your tour, overlook the infinite vines of Santorini that bravely survive the harsh wind of the Cyclades. Experience the unique nest-shaped vines and taste their delicious juice in a friendly, relaxing atmosphere.
