About This Tour
Santorini is a caldera — the flooded mouth of one of the largest volcanic eruptions in human history. The cliffs you photograph from Fira, the black sand of Perissa, the white houses of Oia: all of it is the rim and debris of that eruption.
The Santorini volcano tour takes you across the caldera to Nea Kameni, the young, still-active volcanic island at its centre. You hike to the crater with a licensed guide, then swim in the iron-rich thermal waters of Palea Kameni.
We run small groups, traditional wooden boats, and guides who actually live here. No coach-park scale, no scripted commentary.
Getting to the Old Port
By cable car (€4/adult each way, every 20 min in season), by the famous 600 steps on foot (20–30 min), or by donkey (€5/person each way, ~20 min).
Volcano crossing time
10 minutes from the Old Port, 20 minutes from Athinios Port.
The crater hike
About 30 minutes to reach the crater. Wear sturdy closed-toe shoes. No shade on the path.
The hot springs
Recommended for good swimmers. The iron-rich water can stain light fabrics — bring a dark swimsuit.
Finding your way in Fira Town
Most boat trips depart from the Old Port below Fira. Use this layout to navigate pick-up points, the cable car, and essential services before your cruise.
Major roads & borders
- Jewellery Street runs horizontally across the top of town.
- Cable Car Station at the top right — cliffside transit to the Old Port.
- Northern exits towards Firostefani, Imerovigli and Oia.
- Southern exits towards Kamari, Perissa, Akrotiri, the airport and Kontochori.

- Fira Square at the dead-centre of town.
- Taxi Station just west of Fira Square.
- Bus Station southwest of Fira Square, near the lower-left transit exit.

- Cathedral in the upper-left quadrant along Jewellery Street.
- Catholic Cathedral in the upper-right corner past the Cable Car.
- Museum of Prehistoric Thera in the upper-left block below Jewellery Street.
- Archaeological Museum upper-right, just south of the Cable Car route.
- Bellonias Cultural Center on the western edge, adjacent to the Post Office.
